Wizards of the Coast Game Center Poker Deck Cards

On April 30 1997, Wizards of the coast, created a media kit of the Game Center Poker Deck cards for a very rare media/press release package that was distributed to about 40-50 media outlets. About 50 to 100 Game Center Poker Decks are supposed to exist, some of them were sold at WOTC Game Center. The decks consist of 52 standard playing cards plus 4 jokers for a total of 56 cards. Poker Deck Sealed Wizards of the Coast also ran a chain of gaming retail stores, run under the names "The Game Keeper" and "Wizards of the Coast," including their flagship gaming center on the Ave in Seattle for several years. It included a gaming store, complete with life-size statues of characters from “Star Wars” and Magic; a video arcade populated by panhandling street kids who looked like extras from “Blade Runner”; a virtual reality gaming area with climb-in cockpit pods for networked giant robot battles; a Planet Hollywood-style restaurant, Dalmuti’s, decorated in a gaming theme; and in the massive basement, a sort of community center for gamers stocked with tables, chairs and the kind of plush curtains and heraldic banners suited to an Errol Flynn movie — or dinner with the kids at Medieval Times. In this subterranean paradise Wizards hosted a steady stream of card game tournaments and other events, including Microsoft’s 1998 Age of Empires computer game championships.
